Here's an explanation of what Starbrite is and what the universe is like. For more info, check out the FAQ!

“Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.”
“Supernova’s Prayer”
What is, a "Starbrite"? And can it make you gay? Experts say, yes. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. A Supernova is created when someone, completely and totally, wishes for something better. It’s a pure wish, one that asks with no reservations, one that lets you believe you have the power to change this. If the stars believe you are pure of heart, they entrust you with the power to make that wish come true. And that Supernova becomes the embodiment of that wish, and fights every day to make this world better.
A Supernova is a magical girl (which, for our purposes, is a genderless term) who received their power after wishing on a star. Supernovas make a wish from the bottom of their heart, and wake up the next morning holding their Star Stone. The magical girls fight for their wish and for hope, usually with a unique weapon or magic power.
A Star Stone is the focal point of the magic of a Supernova. In its natural form, it’s a palm-sized crystal with a shining star trapped inside of it. However, most Supernovas keep it on themselves in the form of a magically transforming accessory. Supernovas touch their Star Stone to activate their transformation, and pull their weapon (if any) from its surface. Weapons are made of solid light, can be dissipated, and cannot do lethal damage. Additionally, a Star Stone can only be removed from a Supernova willingly, though they’ll have to get it back if they lose it. Only the intended holder of a Star Stone may wield it, save for the rare legacy hero. A Star Stone also provides a magical veil that shields their identity—unless a Supernova tells you directly who they are or transforms directly in front of someone, their identity is protected. This veil works on technology as well.
Constellations are the common word for teams of Supernovas. Supernovas will often team up to beat a particularly dangerous enemy, to fill an unoccupied role in the city, or just as a social club after a long night of fighting for hope. They're very fluid! If a Constellation becomes more permanent, magical girls may identify themselves as a member with a small patch or costume theme!
“Take a number of coins equal to your teams’ members, and give one to each Supernova.
On the count of three, throw the tokens onto the ground, and record where they fall.
This arrangement of points is your constellation, a marker of your team membership unique to your group.”
“Supernova Protocol,” drafted during the Magika Summit of 1988.
Fallen Stars (often called Dark Matter as a team, or Rogues OOC) are magical girls who have lost the hope that they made their wish with. They retain all of their magical power, but slightly wrong, turned towards destruction and hopelessness. A tell-tale sign that a Supernova has fallen is their eyes, which may change or even turn completely black. A Fallen Star is not lost forever- many Supernovas tell stories of a former teammate losing their pitch-black eyes and returning to fight for hope once again.

The world of Starbrite is very similar to ours, but there are a few major differences besides the presence of wish-granting stars. For example, in order to facilitate jokes, many brand names are slightly different. McDonalds has been replaced with O'Donald's, an inexplicably Scottish-themed chain restauraunt that serves O'Nuggets and fries. Craigslist is Gregslist, Disney is Gisnep, Walmart is Mallmart, and Hot Topic is Hot Take. Celebrities and historical figures often have different names as well, like Snakesphere and Dharles Chickens.
Some brands have retained their original name in the Starbrite universe, but have a different presence and popularity. MySpace is still the dominant form of social media, even though upstarts like Binterest and Friendbook diversify the landscape. Hydrox cookies sent Oreos out of business long ago.
